Colonel Fred W. Allen
COL Fred W. Allen was born in Peoria, IL,
is the son of Ralph and Mary Allen of Delavan and lives on a family farm
near his hometown of Delavan. He has been married for 25 years to
Jeanine (Godby) Allen, also from Delavan, and has four children named
Zac, Jessie, Jake, and Emily. COL Allen graduated from the University of
Illinois in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture Mechanization and
received his commission as an Aviation Officer in the Army National
Guard through the University of Illinois ROTC program. After graduation,
he began his career as a Second Lieutenant by attending Flight School at
Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Since then, his assignments have included: UH-1H
Assault Helicopter Platoon Leader, CH-47 Aviation Maintenance Platoon
Leader, UH-60 Aviation Maintenance Company Commander, CH-47 Helicopter
Company Commander, UH-60 Battalion Executive Officer, UH-60 Battalion
Commander, Brigade Operations Officer, Flight Facility Commander, State
Aviation Officer and his current assignment as the IL Army National
Guard Chief of Staff. His schools include Airborne School, Air Assault
School, Officer’s Basic Course, US. Army Rotary Wing Course, UH-1H,
CH-47, and UH-60 Helicopter Qualification Courses, CH-47 Maintenance
Test Pilot Course, Combined Armed Services Staff School, Command and
General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College where he received a
Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. COL Allen deployed to Iraq in 2004
as the Commander of 1-106th Assault Helicopter Battalion and is
scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in May, 2011 where he will command an
Agricultural Development Team in the Kunar Province. His awards include
Master Army Aviator Badge, Combat Action Badge, three Army Commendation
Medals, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Bronze Star. He has
served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, runs a small grain and
livestock farm, and serves as a leader and Sunday school teacher at
Prairieland Christian Church in Hartsburg, Illinois.
Colonel Allen presently serves as the
Illinois Army National Guard Chief of Staff in Springfield IL.
Colonel Allen will deliver the address on
Friday, September 3 at Memorial services at the AVTT in Memorial Park in
Manito IL.
